Vijay Setlur is a freelance soccer journalist covering Canada and Canada’s national teams for CONCACAF.com, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBCSports.ca and CBC Radio), and The Fan 590, Toronto’s all-sports radio station.
Since 2006, he has participated in over 300 interviews providing analysis on various teams, matches and international tournaments for radio stations across Canada. His assignments have taken him to the U.S. for the 2007, 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the 2008 Men’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament and to South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Vijay is also the author of a blog at www.fan590.com titled, “Red, White and Goooaaalll!!!” on Canada’s quest to qualify for 2014 FIFA World Cup Brasil.
Beyond journalism, Vijay strives to contribute to the advancement of the sports business industry and soccer in Canada. He is a part-time professor of sport marketing at York University’s Schulich School of Business and an experienced sport business professional with various positions in communications and marketing, including managing communications for the Toronto venue of the record-breaking FIFA Under-20 World Cup Canada 2007. The Toronto native and resident has a MBA from Schulich School of Business and certificates in Public Relations and Event Management from Ryerson University and The George Washington University, respectively. Vijay hopes his professional endeavours in sports business and journalism will, ultimately, lead to the all-important goal of having Canada qualify again for the FIFA World Cup.
