Nick Rimando the Real Salt Lake goalkeeper has been voted the Major League Soccer (MLS) Player of the Month in March of the 2011 season.
Rimando took 11 votes. As if to emphasize the domination of the Utah side in March, his team mate Javier Morales came in second.
DC United’s Charlie Davies came in third. New York’s Rafa Marquez and New England’s Shalrie Joseph also received first choice votes.
Other players who were mentioned in voters’ second choices were Omar Bravo (Sporting Kansas City), Tally Hall (Houston Dynamo) and Uruguayan Diego Chaves (Chicago Fire).
Real Salt Lake won both their MLS matches in March, narrowly winning 1-0 in San Jose before beating Los Angeles Galaxy 4-1 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Rimando made eight saves in atrocious conditions in San Jose and was undoubtedly the difference between one point and three. He added two further saves in the win over Los Angeles.
Rimando played two non-MLS games in March. He added one shut out to his other achievements as his side beat Deportivo Saprissa 2-0 to deny the Costa Ricans a road goal, and go a good distance to help Salt Lake ensure further MLS representation in the CONCACAF Cup.
He also played in the 4-1 win over Columbus Crew on March 1.
